Back on the pavement: my fourth Covenant House Sleep Out

On November 29, I’m giving up my bed for one night to sleep out for Covenant House Vancouver, and I’d love your support.

Why I do this

Through interaction with Covenant House over the last 5 years, I’ve learned how quickly life can turn upside down for a young person. Trauma, a broken home, no support network, a housing affordability crisis, or sometimes just plain bad luck can push a teenager onto the street. Without someone to catch them, a rough patch can become a lifetime of homelessness.

Covenant House is that someone. It’s much more than a shelter. Young people are welcomed with unconditional love and given warm meals, medical care, education, life skills, mental health and substance-use counselling, and housing support. These are the tools they need to build independent futures.

We may not be able to solve homelessness overnight for everyone already on our streets. But we can stop vulnerable young people from becoming the next long-term homeless statistic.
